Who We Are

We are a group of advocates in Chittenden County Vermont that work to provide a supportive cultural atmosphere for breastfeeding.

The fact is, the majority of women do not meet their OWN breastfeeding goals. Many barriers exist which prevent women from achieving even self-defined breastfeeding success. Many of these factors are outlined in the 2010 Surgeon General's Call to Action to Support Breastfeeding.

Some of the barriers are more obvious than others (back to work at 3 months, anyone?). Some are more subtly pervasive and involve deeply ingrained social norms and cultural ideas of sexuality. Others are further complicated by the interests of a multi-billion dollar formula industry that knows it must be covert in it's tactics to sway mothers away from breastfeeding.

Many of us find this very motivating, if not angering, and want to DO something about it. If you are also irked by this frustrating aspect of parenting, please allow your frustration to lead you to action. Consider joining us in our mission to create positive change toward creating a culture where breastfeeding is the norm!
